As the retail giant continues to add more brands and more customers, some of the biggest names in the world are heading home for the winter.
Walmart is moving its flagship store in Toronto to Canada, and Target is moving the flagship store it opened in Winnipeg to New York City.
But the most recent changes to the industry are making the bicycle world a little less appealing for those who want to ride their own bicycles, particularly in urban areas.
The company says it’s moving all of its stores to Canada because the U.S. is one of its biggest markets, with a population of over 40 million.
“As a result, the average customer is getting a much better experience, which is more likely to be more people cycling, which means we’re able to better serve our customers and we’re better able to get the product that we want to offer,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Target also announced that it’s expanding its retail strategy in the U., opening its first Canada-wide store at the Toronto Eaton Centre on Feb. 7.
In January, the retailer opened its first Toronto store, and will open its second one next year.
Both locations will be open to shoppers, but Target’s will be the first of its kind.
“We have a number of locations in Canada and we’ve made the decision to move them all,” said Target spokesperson Sarah McLean in an email.
“We are confident that these locations will provide a good shopping experience for our customers.
We will be offering the latest and greatest brands and the latest technologies, including the newest models, to our Canadian customers.”
Wal-Mart, which recently added two new stores in Toronto, will also be opening a fourth store in Winnipeg this winter, the company announced in February.
Last month, Target announced that its new Canadian headquarters will open in the downtown Toronto neighbourhood of Spadina.
It will also begin selling its iconic yellow bicycle store in the heart of Toronto’s financial district.
And, in October, the chain announced plans to open a store in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
McLean did not elaborate on what changes Target will be implementing to its stores in Canada.
However, in recent years, retailers have increasingly moved their locations around the country to offer customers a more varied experience.
While many stores remain open in cities across the U, like Target and Costco, other retailers have begun moving their stores to urban areas, such as Wal-Mart.
For example, Target will open stores in Chicago this winter.
The chain also recently announced that all of it’s new stores will be in the San Francisco Bay Area.
